Community safety partnerships

The 1998 Crime and Disorder Act requires a number of 'responsible authorities' to work together to reduce crime and disorder at a local level. In England, the responsible authorities are:

  • Police
  • Local Authorities
  • Fire Authorities
  • Police and Crime Commissioner
  • Primary Care Trusts

Working together these organisations are required to conduct surveys to identify crime and disorder problems and community concerns in their area. The research is used by partnerships to develop a strategy to address and prioritise local concerns.

Although each strategy varies from area to area, they are likely to address issues relating to drugs, anti-social behaviour, domestic violence, road safety and young people.

The strategies last for three years and are kept under review by a partnership. They are also taken in to account when West Mercia Police's Divisional Policing Plans and the force's overall Three Year Strategy are developed and reviewed each year.

CDRPs are funded by central Government.
